Erik Snyder receives Stellhorn Award for outstanding New Jersey history paper

2014 Nov 24

Erik Snyder, history major, is one of two TCNJ students to receive the Stellhorn Award for outstanding New Jersey history papers.

Snyder’s paper, “Strong Than the Storm: Why the Great Atlantic Storm of 1962 Failed to Scare New Jersey from its Shore,” won first place in the Senior Thesis category. The paper examined how the inability to establish coastal reform after the 1962 storm directly shaped the Jersey Shore’s political and environmental reality after Hurricane Sandy.

The Stellhorn award was established in 2004 to honor Paul A. Stellhorn (1947-2001) who was a distinguished historian and public servant who worked for the New Jersey Historical Commission, the New Jersey Committee (now Council) for the Humanities, and the Newark Public Library. The award is administered by the New Jersey Studies Academic Alliance.
